Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility received a strong overall score as mentioned above, but we wanted to emphasize its excellent long-term care rating. We awarded them a grade of A- in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths for the elderly population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The third area we graded is short-term care. This facility was given an above average short-term care score, with a B+ in the category. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is more often than not a solid assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The last category we assessed was nursing. This facility was given a grade of C for the category. Our nursing score is primarily based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in some quality-focused measures. We especially look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these problems.
