On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 73.571434 percent of its residents. This is slightly less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. When determining a facility's nursing grade, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

This nursing home's worst area is short-term care, which is the last category we analyzed. In this area, we gave this facility a D. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this facility's case, it looks like it provided less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home.
