Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also received A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were nearly perfect. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Building on its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this facility an B+ for our nursing rating. We assessed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in determining our grade in this category. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The third category we assessed is short-term care. This facility was given an above average short-term care grade, with a grade of B in this area. Our short-term care grade is typically used to measure a facility's rehabilitation services To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we rated was long-term care. This facility received a favorable long-term care score this year, with a B-. While this is not as elite as several of its other scores, this remains an acceptable score for that category. Our long-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility vaccinated 99.12854 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable percentage. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
