Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B- for inspections. This score is better than this place's overall grade. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next highest category was short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B-. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who returned home from this facility. It fared better than most nursing homes in the nation in this area with 53.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its third most favorable category score in the category of long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is a respectable score. Our long-term care grades are more meaningful for individuals in need of more traditional assistance associated with personal care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable total. The last datapoint we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 3.98 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this statistic can be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of residents.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded was nursing, which proved to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Our nursing score is based on a handful of subcategories, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. On top of its below average nursing hour totals, this place also earned poor marks in some of the quality-based measures we considered in calculating our nursing grades. We found that more of this nursing home's residents suffered falls leading to serious injury. We believe that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing grade.
