One of the reasons this proved to be a decent facility is it earned a favorable inspection score. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. This nursing home was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Another one of this nursing home's better category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.69419 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 3.98 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of patients.

Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned an A+ nursing score. This is as good as it gets in this area. We assessed the licensure of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This particular nursing home provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.

The next category we looked at was short-term care. This facility was given a grade of C in the category. Our short-term care grade is generally used to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 32.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
