Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A-. Inspection grades are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B in our long-term care category. This is one of our better grades. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 65.30612 percent of its residents. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second least favorable score is short-term care, where it received just a D in that area. This is a relatively poor score. In computing these short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With a score of this caliber in this category, we weren't shocked to discover this facility was well below average in two of the key staffing figures we looked at. In fact, it provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded is nursing, which proved to be a weak link for this facility. We awarded this facility a grade of just D for the area of nursing. There are a host of criteria included in this grade. Most of the subcategories are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided a meager 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings.
