Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

On top of being a first rate facility overall, it also performed well in inspections, where it received an A-. Not many nursing homes performed better in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its first-rate assessment, this nursing home also was awarded a dominant short-term care score, with a grade of A-. In forming these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our third area, this nursing home also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.65471 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next area we rated is this nursing home's worst category. Nevertheless, even its lowest point would actually be a strength for most nursing homes. We gave it a strong grade of B for our nursing category. Nursing scores are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
