Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility excelled in long-term care, with an A in this area. This really propped up its overall grade quite a bit. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 61.94332 percent of its patients. This is slightly below what we expected but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses commit to residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to the next category, this facility really did not fare well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is its worst category. In forming our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. In this place's case, we found that it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
