Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection scores are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this nursing home received a solid long-term care score this year. We awarded it a grade of B- in that area. In the area of long-term care, we analyze the amount of services provided by a facility, as opposed to more sophisticated services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. This place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. We weighed the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed was short-term care. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in this area. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is typically a useful assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With a score of this caliber in this category, we weren't shocked to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The nursing home supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
