Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second most favorable category is its short-term care grade, where it received a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the category of long-term care, this nursing home received a grade of just D in this category. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 97.297295 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to the final category, we awarded this facility a D in our nursing category. This was the facility's least impressive category score. In computing our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
