Although we gave this facility a poor overall grade, we awarded it a B for our inspections rating. This is the result of the nursing home receiving a decent government inspection report this year. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid places that had a long list of deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an C. Few facilities fared better in this category. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, although this nursing home didn't rank well in terms of nursing hours per resident, it performed much better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average.

As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care score, which is not one of our better scores. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 33.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Historical

Switching gears to our final category, this facility did not perform well in this category either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in this category likely don't provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. After considering the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated only 90.31413 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. Although it had 2.25 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score wasn't bad since it had some more complex patients. This is its best feature in this category
