Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Even though this facility's overall grade was rock bottom, it actually didn't perform as badly in the area of nursing. We awarded it a B- for that category. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did well in this metric. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a patient even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a reasonably solid short-term care rating in our assessment. We awarded it a C in this category. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 3.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home ended up receiving a a terrible grade in our long-term care area. It received an F in this area. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 96.98997 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
In our final category of inspections, this facility received an F here. Since this data is compiled by government inspectors, we heavily weight poor results in this category. For places with poor inspection grades, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This particular nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
