While this nursing home's overall score was terrible, it actually performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Incredibly, we awarded this facility a grade of B- for our short-term care grade, which isn't too bad of a score. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home performed better in this statistic. We found that it performed better than most nursing homes in this area with 54.9 percent of its patients returning home.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. There are several criteria included in this area. Most of these factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.

Long-term Care Quality

Historical

The next area we looked at was long-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in that category. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities provide. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to only 83.71278 percent of its patients, which is somewhat alarming. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.21 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
