Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in this area with an A-. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had a generally positive view of this nursing home's recent inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this category. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are kept in good health. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 54.90982 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit less than we anticipated but still a decent figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. There are several factors within this category. Many of these datapoints relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed is short-term care. We gave it an F for this category, which is a very poor grade. This is obviously a major concern. Short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Based on its poor score in this category, we were not stunned to find that this place offers far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
