Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
Even though we graded this nursing home extremely poorly overall, it received a better long-term care rating this year. We gave it a C in that category. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated only 59.59596 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out this nursing home's inspection score where it received a lowly F. This usually means we found some red flags on its inspection reports. When a facility has this bad of an inspection score, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This particular facility had one deficiency by CMS. We were relieved to find that it was not in a category that suggests that it caused a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home's received a rock-bottom short-term care score where it was given a lowly F. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Given its poor rating in this category, we weren't surprised to find this facility provides significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.3 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated is nursing, in which this nursing home was given a poor score in this area also. It received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our nursing grade includes many components, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than twice the national average in this statistic. This is quite alarming when you consider that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of receiving a very weak nursing rating.
