Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although this nursing home's overall score was as bad as it gets, it actually performed pretty well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

In addition, we gave this facility a rock-bottom F in the category of short-term care. Short-term care ratings are crucial for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. With a score in this range in this area, we weren't stunned to discover this place was well below average in multiple staffing areas we assess. The facility supplied substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The third area we looked at is long-term care, in which this nursing home received an F. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 91.814156 percent of its residents, which is a bit lower than we were hoping for. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final area we assessed is nursing. This facility was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this category. Our nursing score weighs a host of factors. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. With just 0.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this place's nurse staffing levels were far below average. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible scores in several of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this statistic.
