Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. The nursing category is based on several components, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also was awarded favorable long-term care scores this year. In fact, we gave them one of our stronger scores in that category, with a grade of B. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.67105 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. The last datapoint we looked at was the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 2.96 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Our last category is short-term care, in which we gave this nursing home a grade of B- in that area. In computing these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This place fared respectably with 48.1 percent of its residents returning home.
