Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Our inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Very few facilities performed better in this area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 96.26169 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.69 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. Our nursing rating analyzes quite a few datapoints, but the most important one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. With 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the vast majority of facilities. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place was above average in several of these datapoints, with good scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility offers.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we rated was short-term care, which was this facility's worst category. It received an F for this category, which is obviously concerning. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. In this facility's case, it looks like it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 34 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
