Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a great overall score, this place also received first-rate health inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best grades in that category, with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's impressive category grades came in the area of short-term care. We gave them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a score of B. Our short-term care grade is generally used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also strong in the category of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The final category we analyzed is nursing, in which this facility received a B. This facility ended up being very solid in each category we looked at. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
