Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an A-. This is a much better score than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection grades are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home earned high grades in the area of nursing as well. It received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of C. Our nursing score is largely tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its third highest category grade in the category of long-term care. We gave this facility a C in this area, which is a decent grade. For residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated only 50 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was short-term care, which proved to be a low point for this facility. We gave this facility a D in our short-term care category. In computing these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. With a grade this poor in this category, we weren't surprised to find this place was well below average in two of the key staffing areas we looked at. It offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.5 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
