To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection grades are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

This facility truly excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Not many facilities performed more favorably in this area. Short-term care grades are often employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who returned home from the facility. This place fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 55.3 percent of its patients returning home. At most nursing homes, less than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Our nursing rating is based on a host of factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.

The next category we assessed was long-term care, turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in this category. This is one of just a few weak points in a strong profile. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 98.55073 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.17 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
