To go along with its favorable overall score, we gave this place an A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

This nursing home was awarded an impressive long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. The nursing score considers a number of factors. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its residents.

Moving on to the next area, this facility was awarded a C for short-term care, which is generally an acceptable grade. Our short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. It doesn't look like this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
