Registered Staff Hours
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an B-. There are many datapoints included in this area. Most of these criteria relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its third highest category grade in the area of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this category, which is an acceptable score. Long-term care grades are vital for individuals seeking personal care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.064514 percent of its patients, which is a very solid percentage. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care, which was this facility's weakest category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
