Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This nursing home's best category grade came in the category of government inspections. In this category, we awarded this facility a B. It outperformed most facilities in this area. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an B. The nursing grade weighs a variety of factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The third area we analyzed is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B. It actually fared better than most facilities in this category. Short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we graded is long-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of B- in that category. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we analyze the personal care received by a nursing home's patients. One of the factors we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
