Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to performing well overall, this nursing home received an excellent short-term care rating. In fact, we gave it an A in that area. In our short-term care assessment, we strive to create a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In determining our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving a patient more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The third area we analyzed was long-term care. This facility was awarded an above average long-term care grade, with a B+ in the area. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Finally, we also found that this facility has received favorable inspections in recent years. We gave it a B in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
