Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its decent overall grade, we awarded this facility a grade of A for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than its overall grade. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The second highest category we gave this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. In calculating these short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. We found that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last item we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses spent with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we looked at was long-term care, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive category. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is certainly very disappointing. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to just 60.25641 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
