Nurse Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In calculating a facility's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This facility boasts a really impressive 7.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly skilled levels of nurses. This is among the higher totals of nursing hours we found. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With under 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any nursing home the nation in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility was given quality marks in the area of long-term care. As a result, it was given one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A+. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After looking at the impressive nursing care provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.35 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a grade of of A+ for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care ratings are important for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. It performed as well as just about any facility in Massachusetts with 63 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
Continuing with its amazing performance, by receiving an A+ inspection grade, this facility finished off a perfect report card of straight A+'s. This inspection rating is based on the nursing home's recent government inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. Our inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
