Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Very few facilities fared as well in this area. Inspection scores are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is what you want to see in this important metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility performed well in the category of short-term care. As a result, we awarded it a score of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our most dominant scores. Short-term care grades are typically employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. To have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also above average in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of B. It outpaced most facilities in this category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 62.162163 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat less than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Switching gears to the last category, this facility received a strong nursing grade. This facility did not prove to have any weak links. There are many subcategories within this area. Many of these factors reflect nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
