Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. In our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Colorado in this area with 75.4 percent of its residents returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Facility Inspections
This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Without having deficiency data for this nursing home, it ended up being difficult to fully evaluate it in this category.
Nurse Quality
This facility received even higher grades in the area of nursing. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Our nursing grade includes quite a few factors, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provides an incredible 4.5 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this place also fared well in several of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents sustaining falls which lead to serious injury, this facility performed better than the national average. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's worst area was long-term care, which is the last area we scored. Sadly, it received an F in this category. Despite multiple impressive scores in other areas, this score is nevertheless somewhat alarming so we would like to to point it out. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 94.5946 percent of its patients. These scores are obviously more favorable than a few of its other statistics in this category. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.48 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
