Short-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. In our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a very favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country with 65.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This is based on the facility's recent government inspections. An A+ in this area is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. We assessed the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place was also above average in several of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
In our last area, this nursing home also was awarded an impressive long-term care score, with an A-. This finished off an elite report card. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the impressive level of care provided by aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination statistics. For example, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. This combination proved to be successful as this facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.3 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a substantially better hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
