Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection ratings are based on several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility's long-term care grade appears to be one of its higher grades. The nursing home was given a grade of C in this area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated just 83.20988 percent of its residents. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. In computing our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we graded is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a very poor grade in this category also. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. In forming our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Based on its grade in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
