Facility Inspections

Grade: B

While this nursing home's overall score was terrible, it performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with too many deficiencies flagged. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility just a D for our long-term care score and that actually ended up being its second most respectable category. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility administered the vaccine to a relatively low 75.19582 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's next highest category is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still fared somewhat badly. Short-term care grades are typically employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services To have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With a grade this poor for this area, we weren't shocked to learn that this place was well below average in many staffing metrics we assess. The nursing home supplied far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final area we assessed was nursing. It received a lowly F in this area, which is an abysmal score. The nursing grade consists of quite a few subcategories, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
