Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. There are a number of factors included in this category. Most of these datapoints relate to staffing levels. This facility provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition, this nursing home received elite marks in the category of short-term care. Consequently, it was given one of our most impressive scores in that area with a score of A+. In forming our short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also received a top-shelf long-term care grade. This actually is this nursing home's third strongest category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 98.611115 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Finally, this facility also earned excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best scores in that area, with an elite grade of A-. Few other nursing homes can boast of receiving an A- or better in all four categories. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
