We also found that this nursing home excelled in our long-term care rating. We gave them a grade of A+ in this category. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. While it had 2.09 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was close to the middle of the pack due to it having some more complicated patients.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Our nursing rating is largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This nursing home fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented with better nursing care.

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

The last category we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home was given an A-. This finished off a very impressive report card. Only a select few facilities received an A- or better in in each area we assessed. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that it performed better than most facilities in this area with 50.6 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, at most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
