Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a strong overall score, this place also earned first-rate inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a grade of A-. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, it does not look like we have deficiency data for this nursing home. Without having all of the deficiency related data for this nursing home, it ended up being challenging to grade it in this area.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's quality category grades came in the area of long-term care. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of B+. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 94.44444 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given a favorable short-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B+. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The final area we analyzed was nursing, in which this nursing home received a B. This facility did not turn out to have any real weaknesses. In computing our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
