Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Our inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Very few facilities performed better in this area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.14286 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.64 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities next most favorable category was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this area. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place was above average in this metric with 52 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated was nursing, which is this nursing home's least impressive area. It received an F in this area, which is certainly very disappointing. Nursing ratings are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home offered a meager 2.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. On top of its weak nursing hours, this facility also received poor scores in some of the quality-based metrics we considered in calculating our nursing ratings. We found that more of this nursing home's residents suffered falls which led to serious injury. We believe that many falls could likely be prevented with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this facility receiving a terrible nursing grade.
