While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. There are many factors within this category. Most of these datapoints reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

As it turns out, this nursing home only received a D for its long-term care score, which is not a score to write home about. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 97.695854 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

The next category we rated was short-term care, where this nursing home received a rock bottom score in this category as well. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our short-term care grade is often used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Considering its abysmal score in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home offers significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 39.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
