Registered Staff Hours
Facility Inspections
To go along with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a score of A+ for our long-term care score. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of C in this category is by no means a bad score. In computing our nursing ratings, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat discouraging figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is a poor score. We would not necessarily rule out a facility due to one weak score though. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. In this place's case, it looks like it offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
