While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

We gave this facility just a D for our long-term care rating and that actually wound up as its next highest score. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 50.704227 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, we were stunned by its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility fared very poorly with 4.9 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this statistic is more than twice the national average.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. Our nursing rating consists of a handful of datapoints, many of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this area. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing rating significantly.

Historical

The final category we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in that category. Short-term care grades are meaningful for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Given its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 43.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.
