While we were not complementary of this nursing home's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a grade of B. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with too many severe deficiencies flagged. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of C. Our nursing score is largely associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Finally, nursing ratings also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses to assist its residents.

This facility's second worse score is short-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that category. This is a well below average score. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is more often than not a fair assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Considering its poor score in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this nursing home offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

The last area we rated is long-term care. This facility was given a poor grade of F in that area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 67.44186 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
