Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also performed favorably in the category of short-term care, with an impressive score of A- in this area. With our short-term care score, we endeavor to forge a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were not able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third category we assessed is long-term care, where this nursing home received a C in this category. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 98.01588 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we looked at was nursing. We gave this facility a D for the area of nursing, leaving this as the facility's worst area. The nursing score weighs several factors, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. With only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
