Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home really excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Very few nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. Short-term care scores are vital for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This place is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. It supplied about one and a half times as many registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. This is what we like to find when grading a facility in this category. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that it performed respectably in this metric with 45.7 percent of its residents able to return home.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing grade. Our nursing grade is based on many datapoints, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provides an incredible 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls leading to major injury, this place performed as well as any facility the nation. Avoiding major falls is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are employed.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was long-term care. This facility was awarded an above average long-term care rating in our assessment, with a grade of C. While this isn't quite as dominant as a few of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a respectable grade for that category. Long-term care grades are important for prospective residents needing personal care. In addition to assessing the very respectable level of care provided by nurses and other staff at this nursing home, we also were happy with the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very respectable. This combination proved to be successful as this facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.17 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
