Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Not many facilities performed better in that area. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B+. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 93.05136 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat less than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing category includes a handful of factors, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last area we graded is short-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of B. This facility proved to be very solid in each category we looked at. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is frequently a fair assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
