Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home received 10 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a positive grade in short-term care. This nursing home earned a grade of B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our more impressive grades. In crafting our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 60.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a much better rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. Nursing scores are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below average. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was long-term care. In this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In the category of long-term care, we assess the quantity of services offered by a facility, rather than more medically-intensive services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.47458 percent of its residents, which is a very solid figure. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.5 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was less favorable than its other scores in the long-term care area.
