Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In addition to earning a great overall score, this nursing home also received an elite nursing score. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an A. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Oregon in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility was given strong scores in the area of short-term care as well. In fact, we gave it one of our highest grades in that area with a area of A. In forming these short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Another area of strength for this nursing home is in the area of inspections. In fact, inspections turned out to be one of its best categories. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we assessed turned out to be this nursing home's weakest area. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still gave it a decent grade of C for long-term care. Long-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's amount of care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. After considering the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated just 89.189186 percent of its residents for pneumonia. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
