Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this proved to be a quality nursing home is it received a very impressive short-term care grade. In fact, short-term care turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A-. In forming our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also performed well in inspections, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our top grades. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing score assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a patient even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is long-term care, where we gave it a favorable grade of B. This facility truly did not have any weak links. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.27586 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
