Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category scores, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection scores are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours the nurses worked with residents, in calculating our score in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we analyzed was short-term care. We gave this nursing home an acceptable grade in that area, with a B-. Even though this isn't as dominant as several of this nursing home's other scores, it is still not a poor grade. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. We were not able to track down information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
