Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We gave this nursing home one of our higher scores in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A-. This is far better than the nursing home's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Remarkably, this facility provides its residents with at least 50% more physical therapist hours per week than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the country with 61.3 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. In calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses are caring for patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored in some quality-based metrics. This place fared well in a few of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home beat the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we graded is long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this category. Our long-term care grade assesses a nursing home's assistance with daily living instead of the highly skilled nursing and medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is higher than most nursing homes. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.48 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
