Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B. It actually fared better than most facilities in this area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 94.48276 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. Our nursing score looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the fourth category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D for short-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category score. Of course, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
