Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A+. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is certainly an excellent sign for the quality of care at this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received positive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our better grades in this area, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the facility's second best grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 84.61538 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is a few points lower than we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second worse category is short-term care, where it earned a grade of just D in that category. This is a relatively poor score. Our short-term care grades are considered to be more critical for those needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. As you might expect, we found that this nursing home provides significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.3 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the fourth category, this facility did not fare very well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is this nursing home's weakest grade. There are a variety of criteria included in this category. Most of these data points reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
