Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A+. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is really what you like to see in this important metric.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, it also received a high-end long-term care score. In fact, we awarded this facility a score of A-. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 86.43068 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is slightly less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. In fact, we gave this nursing home an impressive grade of D. The nursing score is based on several subcategories, however, the primary consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's weakest category was short-term care, which is the last category we assessed. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category. Despite multiple acceptable grades in other categories, this grade is nevertheless of a concern so we felt obligated to make a note of it. Our short-term care scores are presumably more important for individuals requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 3.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
