Facility Inspections
This facility's inspection grade is its best feature. The facility earned a B- in that area. Our inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Nurse Quality
We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Nursing scores are tied to nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the last area, we awarded this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care. This was the nursing home's least impressive category rating. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
